Yahoo Finance posted an article by Erin Burt & provided by Kiplinger with a listing of fantastic freebies that will let you -as they put it- “embrace your inner tightwad”.  Yahoo Finance has a list of 20 categories ranging from free video games to free capital gains. Some of the freebies are very obvious, like the getting free books at the library, but many of the others are very useful. Wow, this has been a wild and crazy couple of weeks! We’ve had storms, several power outages, attacks by swarms of bees (OUCH!) and very hot air condition free days. All of this has left me a little lazy, but I’ve kicked myself back into gear and have a article that I want to share.

As with tangible real estate, you can buy virtual plots (URL addresses), flip them and make a buck. GoDaddy.com sells unused domain names for under $10 apiece. To attract buyers, run tests to determine how often certain key words are searched so that you can demonstrate the likelihood that your URL will show up in a Google or Yahoo! search. Tip/Warning: The best domain names are short, sweet, specific and easy to remember.

When I was about eleven my brother and sister and I had a small lemonade stand for about 2 days. We sold lemonade and even cold-called a few neighbors for orders with a .25 cent delivery charge. We didn’t make much, but it was enough for a candy spree at the corner store.

Partnership for Prescription Assistance (I’m sure you’ve seen the infomercials with Montel Williams) is a website that provides a one-stop-shop for over 450 patient assistance programs (almost half of which are provided by pharmaceutical companies) that can help you get your prescriptions for free or at a discounted rate. The site offers a free service which helps direct individuals to the programs that they qualify for. Your can utilize this service by calling 1-888-4PPA-NOW (1-888-477-2669) or  by filling out the online form at www.pparx.org. You’ll be asked a series of questions relating to the prescriptions that you take, your age, residence and health insurance provider. Once submitted you will be provided a list links and other important information about programs that you may be eligible for.

The website has lots other great tools,  such as a printable, pre-populated application forms for the programs that you may be eligible for as well as links for co-pay programs and prescription drug cards and a list of free or low-cost clinics near  your area and more. The site is easy to navigate and offers helpful resources.

It has been way too long since my last post. Things have been a bit intense in our household. We’ve had some deaths, some births, a feud with our Internet provider (a necessity with bad service & ridiculous prices) and a diagnosis of ASD for our son (you can read more about this soon at chasingwordslit.wordpress.com).  The past few months have been a roller coaster, but I’m still up to my same old cheap tricks and am ready to share with all who want to read.

As long as you’re 18, a U.S. citizen and don’t work or are married to someone who works in the justice system you can earn between $10 and $60 per case by reading the specifics of a case, then answering an online questionnaire. How simple is that?

There are a lot of individuals in Michigan who are looking for new jobs, changing career paths or looking to start their own business. As one of them I know that this transition can be hard without the right resources. Walsh College of Michigan is offering a series of free workshops to those who have been forced back into the job market. These “Take Charge” workshops are allowing individuals to do just that- take charge of their future and get a new start in the workforce. Someone has finally got it, they’re finally thinking outside the box. People spend countless amounts of money on lottery tickets and slot machines while emptying their savings in hopes that the next one will be the BIG one. If you live in Michigan you may want to keep reading.

Michigan credit unions have created a rewards program that rewards you for saving instead of spending. Simple enough concept right, just wait, it gets better. The “Save to Win” program allows individuals who open accounts in one of the eight participating credit unions, to receive a chance at winning a $100,000 grand prize. Account holders get one entry for every $25 that they save. Don’t worry, the 100 grand isn’t the only prize you’d be vying for, in addition to the grand prize each credit union will award smaller monthly prizes. If you don’t win a prize, don’t worry, because your greatest reward will be a savings account with a balance in the black. Hairwork.com and HairTrader.com are hair-traders classifieds websites that allows users to buy, sell and connect with those looking to buy or sell their hair. That’s right, they’re Craigslist for hair. Hairwork.com charges a $20 fee for a 3 month add and HairTrader.com has free listings. HairTrader seems to have a more manageable and organized site, they even list their highest seller at $2600. Wow! $2600 just for getting a hair cut. Now you will obviously need to have long, healthy, and more than likely virgin hair  to make the the big bucks. So if you have long, healthy & beautiful hair and need to make some extra cash these sites are worth a look. Hey, it’s a lot easier than selling a body part.
